Babies Sleeping Makes More Babies

Babies Sleeping Makes More Babies

I received exciting news today! There is a baby due in September and the parents say it's all thanks to me. I know right?! What the? I don't help people conceive! Aaaaaaaah, but then again; I kinda do. Hear me out...

I couldn't tell you how many times I've chattily asked clients if they're going to have another baby only to be shot evil laserbeams of terror and told that they won't even think about adding another baby to their family until they've sorted out this little treasure's sleep. And it's true – unless there is a deadline for the next baby, I know most of my clients who are in the pits of sleep deprivation would be very hesitant to add to their family's sleeplessness until child #1's routine and sleep patterns are sorted. Furthermore in a lot of the families I work with, mum and dad are sleeping separately in a sort of divide and conquer way of optimising everyone's sleep levels. Hardly the best circumstances for baby making, if you know what I mean.

Like so many of my clients, I remember Emma (name used with permission) going pale at the thought of having another child – she hadn't had more than 3-4 hours unbroken sleep in over 21 months (including the last few months of pregnancy) and even told me that although she'd always wanted at least two children, suddenly she's fine with just one. Her first baby was sleeping through within a week of our consultation four months ago and then today I got this happy news:

"Katie, we are so thrilled to let you know that we are expecting a little brother or sister for Miss A. When we had a toddler who wouldn't sleep it felt like adding to our family would only add to our problems. I know that sounds terrible but it's true! Now that Miss A is sleeping through every night (and has done ever since that first week of sleep training!) we feel much better about adding to our family. Thank you so much! We literally wouldn't be having this baby if it weren't for you!"

I'm so thrilled for this family, the parents are just the loveliest people you'll meet and they're all so much happier and healthier now that they're getting deep and restorative sleep.
